Linda Sikhakhane’s fourth record and debut release for Universal Music Africa and Blue Note showcases the acclaimed South African saxophonist and composer. Sikhakhane and pianist Nduduzo Makhathini, with whom he has collaborated in concert and on albums, subscribe to the Zulu belief that music simultaneously offers curative properties and dynamic spiritual reflection and, therefore, should be approachable. On Iladi, Sikhakhane’s quartet invites the audience to engage more deeply with South African jazz’s essence, customs, and enigma.
