Charlotte, this is a cutthroat way to describe Tori’s new album. Your POV is interesting but it lacks a big picture trajectory, looking at her songs in this silo. It’s an isolated project that fits into her journey of re-discovering her inspirations to get into music. Why would we have to expect each song to chart #1 for it to be deemed successful. No wonder you are at best a freelance writer with this type of trashy articles. 1/5 stars for your writing. How’s that for a review?

Hey JL, you make some good points that I believe Charlotte may in fact have not taken into consideration while writing her review, and I appreciate your defense of Tori Kelly as an artist. I feel similar in my sentiment towards Tori creating this piece as a portion of her journey and therefore something that needs not to hold so much weight but rather simply be a new and unique expression of her artistry, that I believe also is a fun piece of work that carries a lot of emotional depth and distilled emotion.

I also want to point out, though, that Charlotte is very much entitled to her opinion here and brings up great points that are good to be noticed when seeking to openly and honestly review and dissect an artist’s work. For you to discredit and shame her for her writing abilities here feels more emotionally charged than objectively observed, which I believe is unwarranted and unhelpful in a space meant to be conversational in nature, especially regarding someone simply stating their thoughts on a topic.

This is an article worthy of interpretation and response in order to better understand and appreciate honestly an artist it appears we all love and want to see flourish
